The Osborne Collection of Early Children’s Books traces the history of English-language publishing for children. Famous world-wide, the Collection attracts scholars and visitors from around the globe. Locally, Osborne is a favourite starting point for classes from grade 4 to postgraduate for seeing the origins of children’s literature, book history, art and illustration. Visitors of every age will enjoy exhibits and talks on famous and infamous childhood books.

The Osborne Collection of Early Children’s Books has grown to over 80,000 rare and modern children’s books. These are classified in three parts: the Osborne Collection of books published to the end of 1910; the Lillian H. Smith Collection of modern titles; and the Canadiana Collection of materials written, published, or substantially related to Canada.
